Halfway Point Reached in Installation of Yellow River Wind Farm Turbines

– Yellow River wind farm in County Offaly reached halfway point in turbine installation
– 15th Nordex N117/3600 turbine out of 29 installed
– Project expected to deliver 101 MW of renewable energy, power 67,000 homes, and offset 66,000 tpy of carbon

Yellow River wind farm in County Offaly has reached a major milestone with the installation of the 15th out of 29 planned turbines. Construction began in October 2022, with the first turbine installed in January 2023. Once completed by the end of Summer 2024, the wind farm is expected to deliver 101 MW of renewable energy and power 67,000 homes annually while offsetting 66,000 tons of carbon. This project is part of SSE Renewables’ goal to increase its renewable energy capacity to 9 GW by 2027 to address climate change.

The turbine installation halfway point marks a significant achievement for the project, with the entire team focused on timely completion. The site has received support from surrounding communities, and delivery of turbine components is done in the early hours to minimize disruption. Yellow River has secured a contract with the Irish government for all planned installed capacity. Additionally, the Spring 2024 issue of Energy Global magazine covers topics such as battery storage, renewables in Europe, electrical infrastructure, turbine monitoring, and more, showcasing the latest developments in the renewable energy industry.
