Niagara Energy completes acquisition of Enel’s Peru unit for $1.36 billion

Niagara Energy, controlled by Actis, has completed the $1.36bn acquisition of Enel Distribución Perú, gaining a 92.35% stake in the power-generating subsidiary of the Italian utility Enel. The acquisition involved purchasing approximately 2.9 billion shares at $0.47 each. This aligns with Niagara’s strategic growth objectives in various countries. The transaction will reduce Enel Group’s debt and positively impact net income. In March 2024, Niagara initiated an offer to acquire all outstanding shares of Enel Distribución Perú. Peru’s antitrust authority has approved the sale of Enel Distribución Perú and Enel X Peru to China’s Southern Power Grid International. This deal, valued at $2.9bn, included Enel Perú’s stake in Enel Distribución Perú and Enel X Perú.
