Orsted has appointed ABL to provide marine warranty services (MWS) for the offshore transportation and installation of wind turbines and cables for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan. ABL’s work includes reviewing, surveying, and approving all operations related to the installations. This follows ABL’s previous MWS appointment for the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms. The projects will involve the installation of 66 fixed-bottom wind turbines in water depths ranging from 23.8 to 44.1m. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Orsted secured the capacity for the Greater Changhua offshore wind farms during Taiwan’s first price-based auction in 2018. In 2020, a corporate power purchase agreement was signed with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for the full production of Changhua 2b and 4. The Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind project was recently inaugurated in the Port of Taichung. Additionally, Orsted’s Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm in Germany, jointly owned with Nuveen Infrastructure, recently produced its first electricity. The wind farm will deliver power to Germany’s national grid.
