– Projected to generate around 6TWh of clean energy annually, sufficient to power 1.6 million German households
Swedish energy company Vattenfall has sold a 49% stake in its Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms to German chemical company BASF. These wind farms will be located in the Nordlicht wind park zone in the German North Sea, with capacities of 980MW and 630MW respectively. The project is set to become Vattenfall’s largest offshore wind farm project, generating around 6TWh of electricity annually, enough to power 1.6 million German households. Vattenfall will oversee development and construction, with plans to supply German customers with renewable energy. BASF intends to use its share to power its chemical sites in Europe, particularly in Ludwigshafen. The companies aim to achieve emissions reduction targets with this investment. The construction of the wind farms is expected to start in 2026 and become operational by 2028. This collaboration is the second between Vattenfall and BASF in offshore wind projects, following a previous partnership in the Dutch North Sea.
