Agreement reached for land access for wind farm in Egypt with Masdar and partners

– Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, Infinity Power, and Hassan Allam Utilities signed a land access agreement with the Egyptian Government for a 10 GW capacity onshore wind farm in Egypt.
– The wind farm will be one of the largest in the world and have a project value exceeding US$10 billion.
– The project will help Egypt meet its renewable energy targets, reduce carbon emissions, create local jobs, and save the country an estimated US$5 billion in natural gas costs per year.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, Infinity Power, and Hassan Allam Utilities have signed a land access agreement with the Egyptian Government for a 10 GW capacity onshore wind farm in Egypt, valued at over US$10 billion. The project aims to be one of the largest in the world and will play a significant role in Egypt’s energy transition. The consortium will have access to a 3025 km2 area in West Suhag to conduct necessary studies for the project’s development, including environmental impact assessments.

The wind farm is expected to produce 47,790 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing Egypt’s carbon emissions by 9%. It aligns with Egypt’s goal of sourcing 42% of its energy from renewables by 2030. Once operational, the wind farm will save Egypt an estimated US$5 billion in natural gas costs annually. The project also includes commitments to local job creation, community support initiatives, and environmental protection efforts.

Masdar’s CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, commended Egypt’s leadership in reaching this milestone and highlighted the project’s contribution to unlocking Africa’s clean energy potential. The initial agreement for the wind farm was signed during the COP27 conference in 2022, showcasing the collaborative efforts between the consortium and the Egyptian government.
