– RWE secures electricity business license for Seohae offshore wind project in South Korea
– The project will be located 45km offshore Taean County in Chungcheongnam province
– RWE to collaborate with local stakeholders and partners to advance the project and support Korea’s renewable energy goals
German utility RWE has obtained an electricity business license for the 495MW Seohae offshore wind project in South Korea. This license allows companies to generate and supply electricity in the country, marking RWE’s first exclusive development rights for offshore wind in South Korea. The Seohae offshore wind farm will be located 45km offshore Taean County in Chungcheongnam province. RWE plans to work closely with local communities, industry, and partners to support South Korea’s renewable energy goals.
RWE’s next steps for the Seohae project include collaborating with local suppliers to advance engineering and environmental impact assessments, as well as establishing a grid connection agreement with Taean County and the Korea Electric Power Corporation. In addition, RWE, in a consortium with Mitsui & Co and Osaka Gas, was selected by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to develop an offshore wind farm in Niigata prefecture with a planned capacity of 684MW. This development highlights RWE’s commitment to expanding its presence in the offshore wind sector in the Asia-Pacific region.
