The partnership, consisting of seven companies, aims to support supply chain capacity and collaboration for the ‘Great Grid Upgrade’. Initial focus will be on design and construction work needed by the end of the decade for nine transmission projects in England and Wales to connect offshore wind power.
This initiative is described as ground-breaking by National Grid, emphasizing collaboration with supply chain partners for infrastructure upgrades. The seven selected partners have a history of successful project delivery and fostering innovation. The partnership will set the standard for infrastructure projects by sharing best practices, promoting skills development, sustainability, and delivering value for consumers.
The members of the partnership include AECOM Arup, WSP, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Morrison Energy Services, Murphy, and Omexom/Taylor Woodrow. The Great Grid Upgrade is set to be the most extensive overhaul of Britain’s electricity grid in years and is part of a £9 billion supply chain framework for infrastructure projects post-2030. Investment in the electricity networks is projected to contribute significantly to GDP and support a significant number of jobs annually.
